19-year-old left-arm pacer Lucy Hamilton has received her maiden Test call-up for Australia’s upcoming one-off Test against India in Perth.
The squad announcement coincides with Sophie Molineux’s elevation to all-format captain, succeeding Alyssa Healy, who will lead the team one final time in the ODIs and Test before retirement.
Hamilton’s selection, alongside Nicola Carey’s return after a three-year international absence, signals Australia’s focus on building depth ahead of the T20 World Cup in England. The multi-format series begins with three T20Is from 15 February.

Hamilton’s journey so far
Hamilton’s selection follows an impressive WBBL campaign, during which she secured the Young Gun Award after claiming eight wickets in nine matches for Brisbane Heat.
The talented quick also captained Australia at the 2024 U19 World Cup, showcasing her leadership potential alongside her bowling prowess.
National selector Shawn Flegler praised her unique left-arm skillset, stating she “offers something different with the ball” and has a promising future at the international level.
Big selections and misses
Nicola Carey’s recall rewards her outstanding domestic form, including the 2023-24 Player of the Year award and Player of the Match performance in the 2025 Women’s Hundred final.
However, veteran pacer Megan Schutt has been omitted from the ODI squad, likely signaling the end of her 50-over career, while leg-spinner Alana King missed T20I selection following a difficult WBBL season.
